Happy New Year!

1. Curling Clinic - The Manitoba Curling Association in cooperation the MHSAA will be hosting two curling clinics - January 15th at the Neepawa Curling Club and January 16th at the Granite Curling Club in Winnipeg. These clinics are part of the "School House Rocks" program and will review what the Manitoba Curling Association can do for you! It will go over ways to start a curling program in your school and discuss curling programs in the gym, classroom and on the ice. In addition, they will conduct a Pre Level 1 - Getting Started program, and share information on developing programs in your school. There will be on ice activities as well as video presentations. Registration, which includes lunch, is $10.00 per person and cheques should be made payable to the MHSAA. For further information, contact Bill Biehl, MCA Technical Director at 925-5721 or Morris Glimcher at 925-5641. Please send your cheques to the MHSAA and notify your intent by phone or email.

2. Champions - The next Champions cross-mentoring program will be taking place February 6th & 7th in Winnipeg at the Sport Manitoba Building, 200 Main Street. This is an excellent program and further information is available on the MHSAA website. You may contact Ron Paseshnik at 925-5643 for more information on the champions program.

3. Champions Leaders - We are looking for more teachers to become involved in the Champions program as instructors. This involves 1 - 2 workshops (Friday & Saturday) per year and assists on teaching high school student leaders about lesson planning, ice breakers, and general information on drugs and alcohol, peer pressure, etc. Contact Morris at 925-5641 for further information.

4. Track & Field Summit - A track & field summit hosted in Winnipeg on Tuesday January 27th. The Purpose of this summit will be to review the future of track & field in Manitoba as well as qualifications for provincials, and the general operation and future of the sport. This event will be co-hosted in cooperation with Athletics Manitoba. For further information contact Carey at 925-5642.

5. Annual General Meeting - The MHSAA Annual General Meeting will be held June 20th - 22nd in Portage La Prairie. Plan now to attend. This meeting is a great opportunity to share information with peers from across the province and learn more about the legislative process of high school sport in Manitoba.

6. New Staff Member - We would like to welcome Jill Henderson to our staff. Jill is a recreation student from the university of Manitoba who will be spending the next 3 ½ with the MHSAA. She will be working on media relations, corporate sponsorship and assisting with the organization of provincial championships. I am sure many of you will get to chat with her as the year goes on.

7. Tournaments Registration - Just a reminder that all tournaments must be registered. We require all information, including the participating teams, for your tournament. A tournament will be considered pending until we have all participating teams so once you finalize your teams, send an email to info@mhsaa.mb.ca listing all the teams that will be at your tournament.

8. On-line polls - We frequently post polls and surveys on-line. We would welcome any suggestions that you may have in regards to ideas. PLEASE forward to morris@mhsaa.mb.ca.
