8, 2004 Update
1.
Basketball Sportsmanship Banners NBA Canada
annually awards sportsmanship banners to teams displaying
positive behaviour both on and off the basketball court.
Should you be aware of any team that has displayed these
positive traits, please write a short note to morris@mhsaa.mb.ca
or call 925-5641. These banners will be awarded very shortly.
2.
Update Lists Please update your school information
sheets with all email addresses. Please pay attention
to guidance councilors as we will be sending more scholarship
information to schools in the near future and would like
to send them to guidance councilors as well. Please ensure
that your coaches, physical education staff and all school
information addresses are updated. We receive many that
are undeliverable.
3.
Tenders Tenders will be mailed out to schools
during the week of April 19th.
4.
Student Manager Award MHSAA annually sponsors
a Student Manager Award. This award consists of a plaque
and a $500.00 scholarship to be used towards post secondary
education. If you have a student that exemplifies an excellent
student manager, please write a letter to Morris outlining
that students contributions.
5.
CIBC Scholar Athlete Award These applications
will be posted on the website in early May.
6.
Board Positions Just a reminder that there
are rural and urban positions available on the MHSAA Board
of Directors. This is a chance to make sure that your
voice is heard at the AGM and throughout the year. If
you would like further information, contact Morris.
7.
Annual General Meeting The MHSAA Annual
General Meeting will be held June 20th, 21st, and 22nd
at the Canad Inn in Portage La Prairie. Registration will
be $160.00 per person. This includes accommodations, meals,
registration materials and special gifts. The agenda will
be posted on the MHSAA website shortly. Accommodation
is limited so seriously consider coming to this meeting.
8.
Heel N Wheel-A-Thon The Heel N
Wheel-A-Thon for the Crohns and Colitis Foundation,
the official charity of the MHSAA, will be held on Sunday,
June 6th, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Kings Park near the
University of Manitoba. This is a great opportunity for
your school to support a great cause. If you would like
pledge sheets or further information, contact Morris or
you could to sponsor Morris in this walk/run. They are
also looking for volunteers on that day. Call Morris for
more information.
9.
Volleyballs We have been considering different
volleyballs to use as the official volleyball. The two
main balls that we have been looking at are the Tachikara
and a newer ball called Moreno. After discussion with
several coaches, we will be staying with the Tachikara
volleyball as the official ball for MHSAA. We will be
moving to the black, red and white ball. Should you have
any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact
Morris.
10.
Certificates of Recognition The MHSAA annually
recognizes long-term contributors to high school sport
by presenting them with an attractive certificate of recognition.
Should you have any individuals in your school that would
be deserving of this, please write a letter to Morris
outlining their contributions and coaching history. This
award can be for coaches, officials, friends of school
sport, retiring teachers, etc.
11.
Junior Varsity Badminton Tournament A Junior
Varsity Tournament will be held in Carman on Saturday,
May 1st. Entry fee has been $40 per team which consists
of one entry in each category and only one team per school.

12.
FREE Scoreboard The University of Manitoba
has an old scoreclock that they would like to give away.
It is a wall mount that can be transported in pieces.

13.
Hockey Scholarships Just a reminder that the
deadline for the Ed Belfour and Winnipeg Jets Alumni and
Friends Awards is Tuesday, April 13, 2004. Application
forms are available on the website.
14.
Jeff Collins Our sympathies are extended to
the family of Jeff Collins. Jeff, the long-time co-chair
of the Provincial Track & Field Championships finally
succumbed to his very long battle with a brain tumor.
