MHSAA UPDATE - May 5, 2010

1.       2010 Notices of Motion that will be voted on at the Annual General Meeting are now posted-  Here is the link : http://www.mhsaa.mb.ca/pdfs/2010/Zone_Notices_of_Motion_for_April_2010_meeting[1].pdf Motions presented can affect your school, so please be sure that you review them and discuss impacts that they may have on your sport and school.

2.       MHSAA Survey - The MHSAA recently sent out a survey which is asking coaches and physical educators to complete.  We have had over 250 responses to date, and all comments will be reviewed.  If you have not already done so, please complete this survey.  Deadline is Thursday May 6, 2010.    http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/THJH6G6.

3.       Athlete of the Year/Scholar Athlete of the Year – Please be advised that these very prestigious MHSAA Awards and Scholarship programs are on line.  Following are the links for applications forms.   Credit Unions of Manitoba  Scholar/ Athlete Award http://www.mhsaa.mb.ca/pages/award/credit_union.php      Jostens/ Super 8 High School Athlete of the Year Award http://www.mhsaa.mb.ca/pages/award/jostens.php   Deadline for the Jostens Athlete of the Year is Friday May 21, 2010.  Deadline for Scholar Athlete of the Year is  Wednesday May 19, 2010.  Remember up to 1 male and 1 female may be nominated per school.  It is up to the school to decide who their nominations are.

4.       Annual General Meeting – Just a reminder that the Annual General Meeting of the MHSAA will be held June 21st and 22nd at the Canad Inns in Portage La Prairie.  This is a great opportunity to see how the legislative process of the MHSAA takes place and as well participate in this.  State your opinions on a motion or a rule or take place in the discussions groups to help formulate policy.  We will feature our awards luncheon as well.  For registration information: http://www.mhsaa.mb.ca/pdfs/2010/AGM_Registration_form_only.pdf.

5.       Urban Student Representative- The MHSAA is looking for a Urban Student Representative to sit on its Board of Directors.  This would be a student entering Grade 11.  It is a two year term and requires attendance at four MHSAA board meetings a year as well as representation at Provincial Championships.  Schools should nominate students they think would be interested via letter, outlining the students background, and involvement in sports.  Letters should be addressed to Morris@mhsaa.ca.

6.       SOCCER- We have a new official ball for Soccer.  The previous ball used has been discontinued.  We are pleased to announce that the Umbro Dynamis is the new official Soccer ball of the MHSAA.  Thanks to Umbro and Home Run Sports for their support.
