MHSAA Update

1.        Hockey Wildcards:
Wildcard information is on page 40 of the MHSAA handbook.  Deadline for entries for both AA and AAAA is noon March 4, 2009.  Wildcard games will be played in Winkler and Morris on Sunday March 8, 2009.  Wildcard entry fee is $200.00 for both AA and AAAA.

2.        Basketball Wildcards:  See page 46 of the MHSAA handbook.  Deadline for JV and AAAA basketball wildcards is 1:00 p.m. Friday March 6, 2009.

Deadline for wildcard applications for A, AA, and AAA is 1:00 p.m. Tuesday March 10, 2009.

3.        High School hall of Fame- Due to several requests, we have extended the application deadline for the Hall of Fame to Wednesday, March 4, 2009.  Further information is available at

4.        The 2009 Annual General Meeting: The MHSAA Annual meeting will take place June 14 -16 at the Canad Inn -Portage La Prairie.  Plan now to attend. The registration form can be found on the MHSAA Website - follow these links.

5.        Remember to take advantage of Sport Manitoba Travel Assistance if you will be participating  in  a MHSAA Provincial Championship. Check out

         6.      Scholarships: Basketball and Hockey Scholarship application forms are now posted on the MHSAA website at http://www.mhsaa.mb.ca/pages/forms.php

7.        www.Sogoactive.com    ParticipACTION, the national voice of physical activity and sport participation in Canada, has designed and launched SOGO Active, an innovative youth engagement program aimed at 13-19 year-olds, which gives young Canadians the tools to design, change and control their own individual "get active" plan.

8.        Manitoba Foundation for Sports Scholarships is for athletes who have competed at the provincial level or higher during 2008, and have maintained a high level of academic standing, while showing a commitment to amateur sport through their involvement in coaching, officiating and volunteer activities. Scholarships are awarded to graduating high school students entering a post secondary institution and to students in their second or subsequent year in a post secondary institution. The top applicant in each category will be awarded the Manitoba Foundation for Sports.  For further information-  http://www.sportmanitoba.ca/scholarships.php

9.        In recognition of the Winnipeg Blue Bomber Milt Stegall, The Province of Manitoba, Sport Manitoba and the Manitoba Foundation for Sports will provide a scholarship of $1,000 to a graduating high school student entering a post secondary institution and $2,000 to a student in their second or subsequent year in a post secondary institution. 10.        Coaching Manitoba Bursary: Coaching Manitoba on an annual basis presents bursaries to four students who have demonstrated a commitment to coaching in Manitoba. Students who are, or will be, enrolled in the upcoming school term in post-secondary education and currently coaching for a school, club or community center are invited to submit an application. One male and one female student coach from Winnipeg and one male and one female student from rural Manitoba will be selected to each receive a bursary of $500 to be used towards their tuition. 11.        Neepawa Collegiate is actively looking for some new or slightly used Track and Field Hurdles.  If any schools have hurdles that they are no longer using and would be willing to sell or donate please contact Bryce Koscielny @ NACI at 476-3305 or email brycekoscielny@gmail.com
