MHSAA Update

September 5, 2007
Number 1

Welcome Back !

  1. Champions Cross Mentoring Program – The next Champions workshop has been scheduled for October 4th & 5th, 2007. Please note that this is now a Thursday and Friday to avoid conflicts with weekend tournaments. The Champions Program is a leadership initiative that focuses on dealing with peer pressure, making the right choices, saying no to drugs and alcohol. High school student leaders that attend the workshop go on to act as mentors in grade 5 classrooms, speaking on the same issues and helping the younger students to develop their skills. For further information or to register, contact Ron Paseshnik at 925-5643 or champions@mhsaa.ca

  2. ExNet System Website School Information Sheets – Just three weeks left to enter your coaches’ email addresses and enrollment numbers on the ExNet Website School Information pages. Entering the CORRECT email addresses is absolutely crucial!! We communicate important information such as championship schedules, scholarships, sport information, etc. through these emails. IF a school does not enter a coaches email address, they will not receive information that may be pertinent to their team. Reminder – you will need to enter enrollment numbers before you can do any eligibility sheets.

  3. Volleyball officials clinic – A level 1 volleyball officials clinic will be held on Saturday, September 8 in Winnipeg at J.H. Bruns Collegiate (250 Lakewood Blvd). Registration is at 8:30am and you can enter through the front door entrance.

  6. Eligibility Appeals – Schools wishing to Appeal the eligibility of a student must submit their appeal to the MHSAA office in writing, no later than September 14, 2007. Information required for an appeal is outlined on page 8 of the Provincial Handbook and can be submitted by fax (925-5624) or email (morris@mhsaa.ca).

  8. Gymnasium Safety Check - With the start of the volleyball season rapidly approaching, please check to ensure that scoreclocks, cables, standards, referee stands, volleyballs and other equipment are in good working order.

  9. Athletic Taping video – Valley City State University’s Athletic department has developed an instructional video designed for High School Coaches and Physical Educators because it is beneficial to be educated in taping and rehabilitating common injuries that occur every season on every team. (as shown at the 2007 MHSAA Annual Meeting) The cost of the video is $65.00. If you are interested in ordering a copy or would like more information, contact Kendall Campbell at (204)526-7505 or kendall_campbell@hotmail.com
