  1. Tournaments Message Board – The MHSAA is pleased to inform you that the tournaments message boards are back up and running. Check out http://www.mhsaa.mb.ca/mhsaaBB/. There is also a message board for comments. Please use this to list your tournament requirements. We will not be listing them in future updates.

  2. Sport Movement courses – will be offered at St. John’s Ravenscourt. Sport Movement 1 will be on October 20 and Sport Balance 1 will be offered on November 24. For more information cal 1888-214-42444 ext.114.

  3. Board Meeting Minutes – The September 20, 2007 Board Meeting minutes are now posted on the website at http://www.mhsaa.mb.ca/pdfs/board_minutes_Sep20_2007.pdf.

  4. Volleyball Graduating All-Star Banquet & Match: Thank you to all the coaches who submitted the names of their top graduating players for the potential nominees list. A copy of the list of graduating players identified is now available on the MVA website along with all nomination forms and complete event information at http://manitobavolleyball.com/index.asp?Page=56. The event will be taking place Saturday, December 8th with the Banquet in the morning at the Radisson Hotel followed by the matches at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate in the Afternoon. Thank you to Brad Purpur and his Leadership Class at Daniel McIntyre for agreeing to host the Grad All-Star Matches. Please ensure deserving athletes, coaches, and officials receive the recognition they deserve by nominating them for this event by the deadlines indicated.

  5. Tournament Registration and Sanctioning – Just a reminder that schools hosting tournaments must enter their tournament information online prior to the tournament date, so that it can be registered accordingly. Results must be submitted to the MHSAA by Monday noon, following the tournament. The results form can be found at http://www.mhsaa.mb.ca/pdfs/tournament_results_form.pdf.

  6. Hall of Famers – Congratulations to Duane Whyte of Swan River, Lorna Robertson of Hamiota, on their inductions into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame on October 20, 2007

    Duane Whyte – 33 years Varsity Boys Coach Swan Valley Regional School ; five MHSAA provincial champions ; four-time MBCA Coach of the Year

    Lorna Robertson – 30 years Coach Hamiota Collegiate ; eight MHSAA provincial championships; four-time MBCA Coach of the Year ;Mike Spack Award in 1997

    The Hamiota girls teams are also being inducted
    Hamiota Collegiate Varsity Girls 1986-87, 1987-88, 1989-90, 1990-91, 1991-92, 1992-93 and 1993-94 – MHSAA Provincial ‘A’ Champions seven times in eight years

    Bob Town, current principal of J.H. Bruns Collegiate who will be inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame as a Basketball Athlete on Nov. 17. Bob played for the Canadian Men's Basketball team in the 1976 Olympics

  7. Volleyball Eligibility – The deadline for Volleyball Eligibility Sheets is November 19th, 2007.

  8. St.Mary's Academy is looking for basketball coaches at the Grade 9 and Junior Varsity Level. If interested please contact Demetro Danyluk at 477-0244 or dedanyluk@stmarysacademy.mb.ca.

  9. Canada Summer Games - Sport Manitoba is currently accepting applications from qualified individuals interested in volunteer positions with the Team Manitoba Mission Staff. As a member of the Mission Staff, volunteers will play a critical role in supporting Team Manitoba's athletes and coaches at the 2009 Canada Summer Games in Prince Edward Island. Additional application forms are available on the Sport Manitoba website at http://www.sportmanitoba.ca/programs/teammanitoba.php. Deadline for application is December 1st.

  10. Severe Weather Presentation - Severe Weather can strike quickly and anywhere in Manitoba. . Officials and event organizers need to consider these weather risks in their planning. To best enjoy sports and to stay safe, it helps to know the weather risks and how to plan for them. As part of Environment Canada's role in severe weather awareness, Dale Marciski, Outreach Officer for the Meteorological Service of Canada in Winnipeg will deliver a presentation on the types and frequency of severe weather in Manitoba, how to get up to date weather information and what action to take if severe weather strikes.   12. TOURNAMENTS LOOKING FOR TEAMS

    Neepawa Tigers are hosting a high school hockey tournament November 2 and 3 in Neepawa. We are looking for 2 more teams. contact: Bryce Koscielny at 204-476-3305.

    Beaver Brae in Kenora is looking for varsity boys basketball teams to attend their tournament on February 1 & 2. For more information, contact Scott Sparkman at (807) 467-6401.

    Sanford Collegiate needs one team to fill their Varsity Girls Volleyball Tournament on November 9 – 10. Contact Kelly Taylor at 736-2366.

    Springfield Collegiate is looking for teams to participate in its Varsity Boys and girls Basketball tournament on December 14 and 15. Contact Paul Fust at the school 444-2404.

    Westpark School in Portage la Prairie is looking for teams for Varsity Volleyball tournaments (Oct. 13 for Girls – 1 spot left, and Oct. 20 for Boys – 2 spots left). Strong JV teams are welcome to compete in these Single A Varsity tournaments. Contact Wayne Sawatzky at wsawatzky@westpark.mb.ca.

    Minnedosa Varsity girls are looking for teams for their 1 day volleyball ball tourney on

  13. TEAMS LOOKING FOR TOURNAMENTS

    Cheryl Bazin has a grade 9 CJS boy's team looking for a tournament on October 26th or October 27th. Email cheryl.bazin@lrsd.net.

    Garden Valley Collegiate is looking for varsity boys volleyball teams to attend their tournament on October 26 & 27. Please contact Pat Alexander at pat.alexander@gvsd.ca.

    Morris School is looking for varsity girls basketball teams for their tournament on December 14 & 15. Please contact Chris Hicks or Laurie Edel at 746-2612.
