MHSAA Update

Number 6

October 10, 2006

  1. Champions Cross Mentoring Program – The next Champions workshop will take place on October 26 & 27th, 2006 in Winnipeg. This is now a Thursday and Friday to avoid conflicts with weekend tournaments. The Champions Program is a leadership initiative that focuses on dealing with peer pressure, making the right choices, saying no to drugs, tobacco and alcohol. High school student leaders that attend the two day workshop go on to act as mentors in grade 5 classrooms, speaking on the same topics and helping the younger students develop their skills. For further information or to register, contact Ron Paseshnik at 925-5643 or champions@mhsaa.ca, or visit the website, http://www.mhsaa.mb.ca/pages/champions_mentor.php.

  2. There are several deadline dates fast approaching. Online eligibility for the following sports must be completed by the date indicated. Last Chance for Cross Country Running and Rural Soccer!

  6. Tournaments Message Board – We are pleased to announce that the Tournaments Looking For Teams/Teams Looking for Tournaments message board is back up and running, in a revised format. We have added some security measures to ensure that spam messages that were previously posted, will not be able to post messages automatically.

This means that in order to post messages, you will need to register. To do this, simply go to http://www.mhsaa.mb.ca/phpBB2/, and click the Register link in the upper right hand corner. This brings up a rather lengthy form, but the only required fields are a user name, password, email address and one field that has a code. The user name and password for this message board are up to you, so make sure that it is something that you will remember. You are only required to register once. After you have done this, you will receive an email confirming your registration, with a link to click for activation of your account. After completing this, you will simply need to log in to post messages.

  7. Zone 6 Curling – Jennifer McFall is trying to create a curling league in zone 6 with some consideration to including teams from other zones. For further information, contact her at jmcfall@mts.net

  8. Thanks to Dairy Farmers of Manitoba as they have taken on an expanded relationship with MHSAA. They are now the title sponsor of “AAAA” Hockey and Basketball Championships, as well as Track & Field. Thank you for the outstanding support!
