MHSAA Update

  1. Orienteering Session – geared towards grades 5-12 will be held on Friday, May 4 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. This session is geared at teaching participants to travel to a series of checkpoints in unknown terrain using a map and a compass. It also prepares teachers so that they can teach it. The cost is $20 and to register email your personal info to info@orienteering.mb.ca or leave a message at 925-5706

  2. Manitoba Provincial High School 5 Pin Bowling Tournament, Saturday, April 21st, 2007. Due to an increase in provincial lineage, the fee for a team to enter is $48.00, not $40.00. For further information, please contact Deanne Zilinsky at 925-5766.

  3. Sport Manitoba Travel Assistance – Schools who will be participating in Provincial MHSAA Championships may be eligible for travel assistance through Sport Manitoba. Make sure that you take advantage of this support. For further information http://www.sport.mb.ca/downloads/Athlete_Travel.pdf

  4. Basketball and Hockey Scholarship Forms- Just a reminder that Basketball and Hockey Scholarship forms are now available on line. Go to http://www.mhsaa.mb.ca/pages/forms.php to download them today!

  5. The Manitoba Foundation for Sports scholarship program administrated by Sport Manitoba was established to support young athletes, who continue to participate in amateur sport while pursuing a post secondary education. The program's emphasis is placed on athletes who have competed at the provincial level or higher during 2006, and who have maintained a high level of academic standing, while showing a commitment to amateur sport through their involvement in coaching, officiating and volunteer activities. Preference will be given to athletes attending university or college in Manitoba. For further information, contact Laurel Read at 925-5615 or check out www.sportmanitoba.ca

  6. New Scholarship Opportunity – In memory of Todd Davison, Western Hockey League and Lloyminster Blazers hockey player who died recently from Synovial Sarcoma (a rare form of cancer), the Never Alone Foundation would like to award the Todd Davison Memorial Scholarship ($1,000.00) to a High School athlete who(this award is open to athletes participating in all MHSAA sanctioned sports). Criteria for this scholarship include:
    • - Has risen above personal challenges in their life
    • - Shows a hard working, diligent approach to the game
    • - Displayed strong leadership and team play
    • - Is respected by teammates and coaches
    • - Is proceeding to a post secondary education on a full or part time basis

  7. MHSAA Board of Directors – Start thinking about becoming an MHSAA Board Member. The following positions are open for election this year.
    a. Urban Rep (2 positions)
    b. Rural Rep (2 positions)

  8. Annual General Meeting – The MHSAA Annual Meeting will take place at the Victoria Inn in Brandon on June 17, 18 & 19, 2007. Plan now to attend.

  9. True North Sports and Entertainment will be showcasing the CMISL indoor soccer game at the MTS Centre on April 1. In conjunction with the event, they are offering both a group discount on tickets ($12.50 instead of $17.50 when you buy ten tickets) or a windup group package that includes a hotdog, drink and chips before the game at a cost of $20.00 per ticket.
