Happy New Year!!!

1. Badminton Scoring System – we were informed late in the fall, that Badminton has gone to a new scoring system. This new scoring system will be in effect for this upcoming 2007 badminton championships in Gimli on May 4 & 5. For details please visit our website under current items and latest news. (you must win by two points, with a point cap of 30 points)

2. BASKETBALL Sale- Home Run Sports has some great deals on basketballs. Buy 6 Wilson Evolution Basketballs and get one free and get a free ball bag as well. 3. Winnipeg Sun School Zone – Every Friday, the MHSAA has a full page in the Winnipeg Sun sports section. If you have a news item that may be of interest, please call Carey at 925-5642 or email carey@mhsaa.ca.

4. Feel Good Stories – We have a fairly new link on our website, (bottom of the left hand side). These are “feel good” sport stories that you may want to read and share with your athletes. IF you have any stories, please email them to Carey at carey@mhsaa.ca.

5. Zone Basketball Schedules/Results – The MHSAA has a online scheduling system that allows results to be posted live. Zone 4 is using it for their JV basketball teams and Zone 2 is using it for all of their categories. To view this, please go to the bottom of page; http://www.mhsaa.mb.ca/ets/pub_schedules.php

6. “A” and “AA” Shot clocks – just a friendly reminder, as a result, of the 2006 AGM, “A” and “AA” schools will be using a shot clock at their respective provincial championships beginning the 2008-09 season. Centaur Products will have a spring special – announced soon!

7. 2007-08 Provincial Championships dates – are now posted on our website

8. Coaching Manitoba Appreciation Nights – will be held at the Brandon University on January 19 volleyball games and at the University of Winnipeg on February 3 basketball games. 9. Coaching Manitoba Excellence Awards - Coaching Manitoba is requesting nominations for the 20th Annual Coaching Manitoba Excellence Awards. This program recognizes outstanding achievements and significant contributions made over a number of years. Nominations will be accepted in the following categories: Grassroots, Developmental, High Performance, and School System. Coaching Manitoba will also honour individuals who have been coaching a minimum of 30 years in the Years of Service category, as well as coaches who have participated at an International Event in 2006. 10. 2007 Maccabi Games (Jewish Athletes) – The 2007 Maccabi Games will be held in Orange County, California from August 12-17, 2007. This is an opportunity for Jewish Athletes between 13-16 years of age to participate in a multi-sport competition either as an individual, or as part of a team. The event will feature many individual sports, including: Bowling, Dance, Golf, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis and Track & Field, as well as team sports that include Basketball, Girls Soccer and Volleyball, Boys Baseball and in-line Hockey. 11. U of M Soccer Evaluation Camp - The Bison Women’s Soccer Team is inviting all grade 11 and 12 players who may be interested in attending the U of M and playing soccer to a Spring Soccer Evaluation Camp from Friday May 4 to Sunday May 6, 2007. The fee for the camp is $10 per player.
