MHSAA Update

April 9, 2007
Number 22

  1. Basketball Scholarships – The deadline for applications for the Canada Basketball Scholarship is Friday, April 13th. Application forms are available at http://www.mhsaa.mb.ca/pdfs/scholar/Canada_Basketball.pdf

  2. Annual General Meeting - Registration forms for the Annual Meeting to be held June 17 - 19 in Brandon are now available on-line at http://www.mhsaa.mb.ca/pdfs/AGM_2007_Registration_form.pdf

  3. Track and Field Coaches Clinic – will be held on April 13 & 14 at the Max Bell center. The clinic features experts in running, throws and jumps and is for those coaches interested in expanding their knowledge and incorporating development/technical concepts into everyday training routines. For more information contact Athletics Manitoba at 925-5792 or email: coaching@athleticsmanitoba.com.

  4. Royal Rumble Track & Field meet – Selkirk will be hosting a track and field meet on Wednesday, May 16. There is a full schedule of events on their “flex-seal surface” (required to wear 5-7 mm spikes for track, all jumps and javelin). Cost is $50 per school or $4 per athlete. Please contact Scott Gurney at sgurney@lssd.ca or 482-6926

  5. 2007-08 MHSAA championship dates – are posted on our website. IF you would like to start planning for next year, please “click” on the provincial championships link in the orange section of our homepage.

  6. FIBA Basketball Rules – The MHSAA will be implementing FULL FIBA rules starting 2007-2008 season. The current three point line is a distance of 19”9’ and FIBA is 20” 5’. After discussions, most people concur that they can simply tape this line down, along with the wider key, until their gym floors are redone. Please visit our website for a description of the differences. We welcome feedback on concerns regarding getting gym floors marked. We are hoping that all schools will have all the FIBA lines painted on gym floors by 2011

  7. Sport Manitoba Bingo Opportunity for Winnipeg Schools – Sunday, May 20, 2007. In order to be considered for the Bingo, you must complete a Bingo Application Form, which must include a signed cover letter indicating the nature of the sport development initiative/event/program and the benefit expected should you receive this grant. Please note that uniforms and travel outside the province are not expenses that are eligible for funding assistance. Applications may be obtained by calling the Sport Manitoba-Winnipeg Region Office at 925-5907 or from the Sport Manitoba website at www.sportmanitoba.ca/communitysports/grants.php

  8. Track & Field Spring Super Seminar – Athletics Manitoba and Coaching Manitoba are hosting a two day Seminar on April 13 & 14 for Track & Field Coaches featuring Long Term Athlete Development – Moving from Concept to Application.
