MHSAA Update

October 3, 2005
Number 5

1. Photographs - We need photographs from a variety of sports for our archives. We use them in promotional material, on our website, etc. Please send the photographs (action shots) to us via email morris@mhsaa.ca.

2. ETS Schedule System - If there are any zones that would like to post their volleyball schedules and results on the MHSAA website, please contact Carey Lasuik at 925-5642. This ETS system allows zones to place their league schedules on our website and upload scores in real time. This is a great tool to view what is happening in your high school sport, around Manitoba. The more zones that utilize this program, the more accessible high school sport fans are to games around Manitoba. For a sample, please go to our home page (www.mhsaa.ca) and click on schedules (left column). Zone 3 has graciously posted their schedule as a test and it is now up and running.

3. Looking for mats - Hartney Collegiate is getting their gym floor repaired and they are looking for large mats to temporarily cover the gym floor. They are looking particularly for wrestling or gymnastics mats. If you have anything that they could borrow, contact Guy Williams, Principal at (204) 858-2797.

4. Sunglasses - We still have many of those wonderful Sundog sunglasses left. These sunglasses normally sell for between $45 and $60 and are now going for the special "Employee Pricing" of $20.00 each. Check out the MHSAA website, on the left hand side on the merchandise link to see samples of these glasses, though we do not have the 63001 (Scammed) model shown there. Buy now as quantities are limited.

5. Eligibility Deadlines - a reminder that the Cross Country and Rural Soccer Eligibility deadlines are October 7th and Volleyball is October 14th. Schools failing to submit and complete all information will be liable for a $100.00 fine.

6. School Information Sheets - This is your last chance to enter all your coaches' information, email addresses, and updated school information. The site will close for this information on Wednesday, October 5th.

7. Grade 9 Provincial Volleyball tournament - The location for the 2005 Grade 9 Provincial Volleyball Tournament - Girls will be taking place in Killarney, Manitoba, on December 2 & 3, 2005. The girls' event WILL NOT take place in Winnipeg this year. For more information, contact Katherin Munday at the Manitoba Volleyball Association at 925-5784.

8. Cross Country Running Championships - Please note that the tentative schedule in the handbook has been modified. This year's championship schedule for the championships in Roseisle on THURSDAY, October 13 is as follows:

11:30 am - Coaches meeting
12:00 pm - JV boys 12:20 pm - Sr Boys
1:00 pm - JV girls 1:20 pm - Sr girls

9. Toronto Raptors Coaches Session - The Toronto Raptors have set up a special pre-game 'GM Chalk Talk' with Raptors General Manager Rob Babcock on Monday October 24 at the MTS Centre. The event will run from 5:00 to 5:45 pm and runs in conjunction with the NBA's return to Winnipeg, which sees the Raptors take on the Portland Trailblazers at the MTS Centre. The first 50 coaches who RSVP to Jeremy at Basketball MB at info@basketball.mb.ca or 925-5775 will be admitted to the pre-game event at no extra cost. The one stipulation is that you must have a ticket to the Raptors vs. Trailblazers game that evening in order to attend.
