MHSAA Update

Number 22

May 23, 2006

1. Scholarships – Application forms for Manitoba’s Credit Unions Scholar Athlete Award, Coach of the Year and Super 8 and Jostens Athletes of the Year are now posted on the website, http://www.mhsaa.mb.ca/pages/forms.php. Be sure to nominate your eligible candidates!

2. Tennis Manitoba is hosting the 2006 Manitoba High School Tennis tournament on Saturday, June 3rd and Sunday, June 4th. The tournament is open to all students in grades 10-12 as per MHSAA eligibility guidelines, excluding players on the Tennis Manitoba Provincial Team. For Further information, check out the website at http://www.tennismanitoba.com/community/highschool.html.

3. Champions 2006 – The Champions Cross Mentoring Workshop for 2006 will be held on Thursday and Friday, October 26th & 27th. This is a change from the usual Friday and Saturday format that we have always gone to. Feedback from participants has suggested that many more students would become involved with the program, however they do not want to choose between a high school tournament, part-time job, and the course. It was felt that Thursday and Friday would be better. For further information on the Champions Cross Mentoring Program, call Ron at 925-5643 or champions@mhsaa.ca.

4. Tournament Bulletin Board – Many tournaments are listed on the tournament bulletin board on the MHSAA website. Click on, http://www.mhsaa.mb.ca/phpBB2/, to look for tournaments to attend, or to post your tournament as looking for teams.

5. Sport Manitoba Travel Assistance – Just a reminder to all schools, that participated in Badminton Provincials, and those that will be participating in upcoming provincials, to apply for travel assistance from Sport Manitoba, through your regional manager. The link to the application form is http://www.sportmanitoba.ca/downloads/Athlete_Travel.pdf.

6. The Annual General Meeting is quickly approaching. Human Rights and long term athlete development will be the major focus of this year’s meeting. Registration forms are on the website, http://www.mhsaa.mb.ca/pdfs/2006_agm_reg_form.pdf. Cost is only $170.00. Plan now to attend as this will certainly be a very interesting and history making Annual General Meeting.
