  1. 30 years of Service Recognition Award – Coaching Manitoba will be recognizing coaches who have coached for more than 30 years. If you are aware of someone who deserves such recognition, please contact Carey for a nomination form.

  2. Vincent Massey in Brandon is looking for JV girls basketball teams to enter their tournament on February 24 & 25. For more information call Dean Oakden at 729-3170.

  3. West Kildonan is looking for a varsity boys basketball team to enter their tournament on February 3 & 4. Please contact Mark Gilchrest at 339-6959.

  4. Westwood has two fan shaped glass backboards and rims for sale at a price of $500 per backboard. If interested, contact J.J. Ross at 888-7650.

  5. Canadian Olympic Committee Calls for Applications for International Olympic Academy in Olympia, Greece. Click on the link below for further information.

  6. Champions Cross Mentoring Workshop – The next workshop will be held February 17 &18th at Sport Manitoba, 200 Main Street. Information is available on the MHSAA website by following the link in the top right hand corner, or by clicking on the following link: http://www.mhsaa.mb.ca/pages/champions_mentor.php.

  7. Canada Games Air Pistol Team – The 2007 Canada Winter Games Air Pistol Team is seeking two female high school students that are willing to train for these spots. They are looking for girls aged 14 – 18 for the Canada Winter Games that will take place in Whitehorse, Yukon in February 2007. This is an interesting opportunity. Students can call John at 334-5738 or Oliver at 287-8951.

  8. Tournaments – A reminder that all tournaments must be registered with the MHSAA. To register your upcoming tournament, go to www.mhsaa.ca, log in to the ExNet System, and choose the Tournament Registration option. All tournaments must fax their results to the MHSAA office on the Monday morning after. Don’t get fined!!

  9. Track & Field coaching clinic – There will be two NCCP track and field courses held on February 17-19 at the University of Manitoba. IF you have any questions please contact Diana Stevens at Athletics Manitoba at 925-5744.

  10. Tournament results to media – The Winnipeg Free Press is willing to record high school scores into the their sports record section, as long as there is space and the scores are received in a timely fashion. When reporting, include: sport and category, league/tournament location, then the name of the teams and scores. Ie; Varsity girls Basketball tournament in Morris. Championship final – Morris 88 over Rosenort 87, 3rd place – Elm Creek 86 over Miami 85. (etc). Please email your league and tournament scores to scores@freepress.mb.ca or call them into 697-7286. (Do not include attachments and always include the details in the text of the email).

  11. Eligibility Deadline – Curling and Basketball eligibility deadlines are February 10th, and Wrestling is February 14th.

  12. Boston Pizza in Winnipeg, Portage and Selkirk are supporting a Valentines Day promotion where school buy $1.00 paper hearts and sell them to kids to put messages on. The hearts can be put on display in an area of the school. 100% of each dollar goes to the Manitoba chapter of Heart & Stroke, and they will be awarding a Big Hearted Business or school each weekday morning starting next Tuesday until Valentine’s Day. This is a good event and supports Boston Pizza, who are great friends of MHSAA. Get your teams or student council involved.
