*           April 15 - Intent to participate.  Zones should contact the MHSAA office to confirm participation in the Provincial Fastpitch and/or Baseball Championship. Please be  aware that some zones may be required to play an INTERZONE game.

1.       Deadline Dates

Tournaments

MUST be registered online by May 3.

Online Eligibility

due by MAY 16 at the MHSAA office. All junior varsity and varsity teams must submit online regardless of whether or not they will be attending the provincials.

Zone and Interzone playoffs

must be completed by May 26.  Please inform the MHSAA as soon as your representative has been determined.

Rosters

must be received by May 27 by the appropriate Provincial Convenor.

Seeding information

must be received by the MHSAA office by May 27. Complete season record. Dates, exhibition, league and tournament games and scores

Deadline for wildcard applications is May 25, by 1:00pm. 

(note: dependent on the number of zones, there may or may not be a wildcard spot(s). 

Wildcard Applications must be sent to the MHSAA AND  include:

-          complete season record. Dates, exhibition, league and tournament games and scores.

-          letter of intent from the Principal

-          $60.00 cheque made payable to MHSAA

Schedules will be posted on the MHSAA website by May 31.  (www.mhsaa.ca) 

2.       Rules for fastpitch:

a)       All preliminary games 5 innings; 10-run rule after 3 innings.

b)       All semi-final and final games - 7 innings with 10-run rule after 5 innings.

c)        Ties at all stages must be broken by continuation of play until a winner is declared.  Tie breakers will be decided by the International Tie Breaker Rule. The last batter at the end of regulation play for the home team, will start the extra inning at second base.  Play will continue until a winner is decided.

d)       Pitching distance - 43 feet. (measurement is from the back of home plate to the front of the pitching rubber)

e)       Official batting helmets must be worn while batting and while running bases.

f)        Smoking or chewing tobacco will not be permitted on the field or on the player benches while the game is in progress.

g)       C.A.S.A. midget category rules will be in effect.  Special playing rules approved by the MHSAA will take precedence over playing rules in the official rule book.

h)       No metal spikes or shoes with detachable cleats are allowed.

i)         Back catchers must wear protective helmet and mask with the attached throat protector.  In addition, catchers are to wear the appropriate protective wear.  All of this equipment is to fit properly

j)         Should inclement weather occur, the tournament convenor reserves the right to change the time and format of the original schedule.  Poor weather conditions could result in the tournament being carried over until Sunday.

l)         Non staff coaching.  See supervision rules on page 1 of this handbook

 

m)     Awards will be presented to the 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place winners (16 each).  An all star team along with a M.V.P. will be selected.

3.       Rules for Baseball:

To be determined and distributed prior to the baseball season 

(Diamond is the official ball)

*      Only wood bats will be allowed for baseball.

*      Pitch Count is in effect for high school baseball.

*      Championships may be postponed a day, or be re-scheduled due to inclement weather conditions (snow storms, rain, etc.).  Coaches should advise school administration and parents that such a possibility can occur.

*      All coaches should advise the host convenor which hotel they are registered at.

*      Opening Ceremonies and related functions.  It is expected that all teams attend. Non-attendance may result in performance forfeiture.  Teams must be in school uniform for the ceremonies.

4.       Uniform Rule

Style and colour of uniform must be consistent throughout the team.  If one player wears digger shorts, all players must wear digger shorts.  Undergarments or sliders must not extend below mid thigh of the playing shorts.  Each team must have matching caps (no commercial advertising allowed on them) and shirts with clearly visible numbers on the shirts.  (No commercial or ‘club’ shirts permitted.) Coaches must wear school team cap.

*      Coaches should be advised that if the uniform rule is not adhered to, the team may not be allowed to compete and may be fined up to  $200.00.  The school may also be put on probation (probation being that if the school violates the infraction again, the school may be fined $200.00 and be suspended from all MHSAA activities).

**  Advertising on uniforms must adhere to guidelines as outlined on pages 72-73 of the MHSAA Handbook
