June 17, 2011…..Student Manager of the Year selected

Mark Iglesias of Kelvin High School has been selected as 2011 High School manager of the year. He worked as the manager of the Clippers Varsity Boys' Basketball team for the last two years. He was dedicated to the program putting in countless hours at practice, games, and at home by organizing the stats and practices. “His knowledge of the game was also very impressive and many times he acted as a fourth coach” stated Coach Chris Young. “Most importantly, he is one of the nicest young men I have ever been around. In a sporting world that can sometimes generate selfish attitudes, he was such a refreshing person to be around because he was always devoted entirely to the team. Although both in his grade eleven and grade twelve years he was cut from the team, he refused to be demoralized and he wanted to continue to be involved with the program “

Mark will receive a $500.00 scholarship to be used towards his post secondary education.

HELP END CHILD HUNGER
Help End Child Hunger- Luke Fritz of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, is a semi finalist of a contest to raise funds for local charities.  Luke has a vision-  My idea is to work with Winnipeg Harvest and their 'Hunger for Hope' program whose goal is to end child hunger in Manitoba. This grant will cover the cost of feeding all of the infants they support in Manitoba for an entire year - AND - will help contribute to the endowment fund to cover this cost for years to come. As a new father, I cannot imagine having my son go hungry. We are in a fortunate situation to be able to provide for him, but many families are not as fortunate.”

Let’s all support Luke in his bid to win that $50,000.00 grant.  Please vote at  http://cfl.ca/microsite/pepsi/fritz/#

Importance of high school sport
"I strongly believe that participating in sports programs enhances personal growth and development. Teamwork and fitness are key to the Canadian Forces. For me personally, playing football in high school has had an enormous impact. I learned about working as part of a team, determination to succeed, and leadership through various sports and feel they have directly contributed to my success in life. I am a confident leader because of my involvement in sports."
