Wednesday, January 28, 2004

The Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association and the Manitoba Volleyball Association are pleased to announce the winners of the 2003-2004 Dr. Dale Iwanoczko Memorial Volleyball Scholarships. The $500.00 scholarships are awarded annually to one male and female student from rural Manitoba and one male and female student from Winnipeg, for post-secondary education scholarships in honour and memory of long time Manitoba volleyball player, Dr. Dale Iwanoczko.

Dale began his playing career for Lord Selkirk Regional High School and advanced to the University of Manitoba where he was named a five-time All-Canadian and CIAU Most Valuable Player in 1991. He also played on Manitoba's Provincial and Canada Games Volleyball Teams. Dale was Valedictorian, Governor General Award Medal winner, and Athlete of the Year at Lord Selkirk High School. A number of Dale's friends, along with the Manitoba Volleyball Association, have organized an annual golf tournament to raise funds for this scholarship named in honour of his memory.

To be eligible for this award, a student must be proceeding to post-secondary education and have a minimum of a 65% academic average. The individual must have proficiency in volleyball and other considerations include academic standing and community activities.
