Discussion Group Results
Morris indicated that the AGM feedback was very positive
however we did not come to a consensus on several topics.
People have commented that the discussions are great, but
there is little follow up. Next year the group leaders need
to draw a consensus from their group.

which is to be fixed. Feedback was positive.
MOTION: That the AGM remain in Portage la Prairie at the

attendee's would like more discussion on the motions. Mark
Diboll suggested that we prioritize the topics and leave
time for the group to draw a conclusion.

Sport Manitoba Update - Jeff Hnatiuk, C.E.O.
Jeff Hnatiuk, President and CEO of Sport Manitoba, provided
a background regarding where Sport Manitoba was, is, and
needs to go. Possible direction of Sport Manitoba may require
a more active relationship with the MHSAA. He noted that
the Federal Government, when Denis Cordere was Minister,
had provincial consultations regarding the direction of
sport. Much of the feedback suggested more involvement with
the education system. At the same time, Sport Manitoba has
developed their MAPS (Manitoba Action Plan for Sport). Their
conclusions stressed that sport in schools is a priority.
Access to school gymnasiums was also stressed. Other factors
that became clear is the need for better programs in the
school system and accessibility to quality sport programs.
Sport Manitoba feels that there are three distinct and separate
systems, being used at this present time; a Regional delivery
system, provincial sport delivery system and a school sport
system. Sport Manitoba would like to mesh the three delivery
systems for a more effective delivery of sport in Manitoba.
Sport
Manitoba has met with Ross, Mo and Carey regarding how the
school system can better mesh the needs and what needs are
required from Sport Manitoba. Sport Manitoba is looking
at MHSAA to be a major contributor to the sport delivery
system in Manitoba and hopefully in the near future. Sport
Manitoba has developed a task force to look at development
of school sport, of which Morris is a member.

7.2 Sponsorship Update
Morris noted that we have renewed most of our sponsors from
last year. A new sponsor is Manitoba Telecom System. They
will be sponsoring all-star t-shirts for provincials and
they will be creating a link to 'My Winnipeg.com', which
is a very popular website. They will also be covering phones,
long distance and cellular service. Manitoba's Credit Union
will be sponsoring the medals for our championships. Radio
station, Freq 107 will be doing a sport show for a few minutes
a every Monday. We will be looking at them for promotions
as well.
7.3
Champions
A lot of interest again this year. At present we are at
85 for the September workshop. Pending the response, another
session will take place in February.
7.4
Website/on-line registration
We are still encouraging schools to submit their logos onto
our website. There were some gliches that hopefully will
be taken care of very soon.
7.5
Staff Updates
No real changes. Ron Paseshnik, a retired teacher is working
part time in the office for his second year, mainly on the
champions program.
7.6
High School Sports Week
Will be October 18-25. A media kickoff will take place on
October 8. The Winnipeg Free Press will provide promotional
advertisements, during to the week. This is the first year
of this week across Canada and every province is attempting
to participate. The Minister of Education said he will be
declaring a proclamation.
7.7
CSSF Meeting
This is the first week of October in St. John's. Morris
and Ross will be attending. This is a great opportunity
for the provincial high school sport associations to come
together to share ideas and discuss common issues in their
province and around Canada.
7.8
Usana Fund Raising Initiative
Usana donated $1200.00 to MHSAA to become a part of their
initiative. There is potential for MHSAA to gain some financial
spin off. They promote fiber bars, vitamins, health shakes,
etc. This is a unique fundraiser that has tremendous potential.
8.
Correspondence
Jeff
Hnatiuk, President and CEO of Sport Manitoba forwarded a
letter regarding to future development of the delivery of
sport in the school system. This was a follow up of the
discussions between Sport Manitoba and MHSAA. (see #5)
