Dr. Dale Iwanoczko Memorial Scholarships Presented

The Manitoba
High Schools Athletic Association and the Manitoba Volleyball
Association are pleased to announce the winners of the Dr.
Dale Iwanoczko Memorial Volleyball Scholarships. A male and
female student from rural Manitoba and a male and female student
from Winnipeg were awarded $500.00 scholarships in honour
of long time Manitoba volleyball player, Dr. Dale Iwanoczko.
Dale began his playing career for Lord Selkirk Regional High
School and advanced to the University of Manitoba where he
was named a five-time All-Canadian and CIAU Most Valuable
Player in 1991. He also played on Manitoba's Provincial Volleyball
Team. Dale was Valedictorian, Governor General Award Medal
winner, and Athlete of the Year at Selkirk High School. He
obtained his medical degree from the University of Manitoba
and passed away at the age of thirty after succumbing to Hodgkin's
Disease and a battle he had fought for fourteen months. A
number of Dale's friends, along with the Manitoba Volleyball
Association, have put together an annual golf tournament to
raise funds for a scholarship to be named in honour of his
memory.
To be
eligible for this scholarship, a student must be proceeding
to post-secondary education and must have a minimum of a 65%
average. The individual must have proficiency in volleyball
and
other considerations include academic standing and other community
activities.

Award Winners
Dr. Dale Iwanoczko Memorial Volleyball Scholarship

Jillian
Patmore of Reston Collegiate is a 5'10" middle, who
maintains a 75% academic average. Patmore a two-time league
All-Star, was also named MVP at this years "A" provincial
championships, which they won. As team captain, she led them
to a 36-13 record and was named Tri-Star Rural Athlete of
the Week, for the week of December 2, 2004. In addition to
playing volleyball, she coaches a grade 8 team and has organized
clinics for young students. Away from the court, Patmore has
participated in student council as treasurer for the past
two years. Patmore aspires to play volleyball at the University
of Brandon next season.
Brock
Fisher is a 6'3" left side hitter from Wawanesa Collegiate,
who maintains an 81% academic average. At this years "A"
provincials, Fisher was named player of the game on two occasions,
as well as winning both Provincial Players Choice and All-Star
awards. During the season, the Wawanesa captain participated
in both the Zone 9 and Graduating All-Star games, and was
named Tri-Star Rural High School Athlete of the Week. In addition
to volleyball, Fisher was student council president, he helped
run and organize Wawanesa's school sports week and was a sound
specialist for choral and school concerts. This well-rounded
individual is looking forward to playing spring Tier 1 volleyball,
along with participating in badminton, baseball and track
and field. Fisher is looking forward to the possibility of
playing CIAU volleyball, as a member the Manitoba Bisons.
Jon
Kasdorf of Vincent Massey Collegiate (Winnipeg) is a 5'9"
libero, who maintains an 86% academic average. This past summer
Kasdorf won both best libero and best defensive player awards
at the under 18 NORCECA Continental Championships, where his
team captured the Silver medal. During the season he was named
a tournament All-Star at the Spartan Dig and the West Winnipeg
Athletic Conference Championships. Kasdorf also participated
in the MHSAA final four, as well as being selected to the
Graduating All-Star and all Manitoba teams. When he wasn't
playing volleyball, Kasdorf was also a part of the school's
concert band, school chorus and chamber choir. Kasdorf also
found time to give back to the game as an assistant coach
with the Vincent Massey under16 volleyball club. In the future,
Kasdorf would like to continue playing volleyball at the provincial
and national levels, aspiring to represent our country at
the Olympics. Although his destination of what post secondary
institute he will attend is still unknown, Kasdorf hopes to
play volleyball at University.
Andrew
Roarda is a 6'2" middle from Dakota Collegiate, who
maintains a 96% academic average. This past season he was
named an All-Star at both the Pembina Trails and University
of Winnipeg tournaments, while leading them to an impressive
record of 40-5. Roarda was also selected as a member of the
Graduating All-Star team, as well as the All Manitoba team.
Roarda led his team to an appearance at the MHSAA final four
volleyball championships and to a 1st place finish at the
Seven Oaks tournament. Off the court, he was a pit musician
for his school's productions of Grease and Suessical. Roarda
also found time to coach a grade 7/8 volleyball team and to
referee as well. Roarda aspires to be a member of this years
Canada Games volleyball team and to eventually play at the
CIAU level.

Award Winners
The scholarships are awarded annually to one male
and female student from rural Manitoba and one male
and female student from Winnipeg, each being awarded

The 2003
Dr. Dale Iwanoczko Memorial Volleyball Scholarship winners
are:
Jodi
Clemons
of Lord Selkirk School is 5'3" and plays libero. Jodi
maintains an 87% academic average and was selected to the
All Manitoba Team. During the season she was also selected
as a tournament MVP on numerous occasions and was chosen as
a Graduating All-Star. In addition to volleyball, she is also
active on the student council as president, serves as a math
tutor, coaches JV girls volley-ball, serves on the Christmas
hamper committee and is the student representative on the
Manitoba School Improvement Plan. Jodi hopes to attend university
where she will pursue a degree in education and play volleyball.
Ryan
DeCosse of Neelin High School in Brandon is a 6'1' setter.
Ryan maintains a 90% academic average and was named to the
2003 Graduating All-Star Team. Ryan was also named to the
all-star team for the Pride of the Prairie Tournament and
the Provincial High School Championships where he was awarded
the Players Choice award. Among all his accomplishments Ryan
is the co-chair of the student council, sings in the Neelin
choir and is part of the excitement of drama club. Ryan's
future aspirations are to represent Manitoba at the Canada
Summer games participating in beach or indoor volleyball.
Ryan also aspires to play volleyball at the university level.
Dayna
Kiesman is a 6'2" middleman from Ashern Central School.
Dayna holds an 86% academic average and received MVP in the
Ashern Tournament and 4 all-star selections at 'AAA' tournaments
this past season. She was also a 2003 Graduating All-star.
Dayna is actively involved in the school band, is the student
representative on the parent advisory council and is the secretary
for the church. She hopes to play volleyball with the Manitoba
Storm and then move onto playing university volleyball with
the Wesmen.
Ryan
Hudson is a 6'3" setter and team captain from Dakota
Collegiate who maintains a 97% academic average. Ryan received
5 All-Star awards at various tournaments. Ryan was ranked
2nd in the Winnipeg Sun Top 10 poll, and was selected as a
2003 Graduating All-Star. Ryan is also involved in various
sports such as hockey and basketball. When he is not competing
in sports Ryan volunteers for the Manitoba Marathon and coaches
club volleyball at Dakota. Ryan inspires to become a member
of the Provincial Team and to be a member of the 2005 Canada
Games Team. Ryan would love to stay in Manitoba and play volleyball
at the university level
