Jane
Edstrom - Nelson McIntyre Collegiate
This
year's winner is Jane Edstrom of Nelson McIntyre
Collegiate. Jane has coached for a total of
27 years in a variety of sports including: cross
country, basketball, badminton, Soccer and Track
& Field.
|
Personal
Highlights include having both athletes in the women's
singles gold medal match for Provincial Badminton.
The opportunity to coach my daughter to two consecutive
provincial basketball titles.
The
meaning of high school sport - Volunteering, convening,
organizing, an opportunity for students to compete
and grow outside the classroom but within an educational
framework. High school sport represents competition,
teamwork, fairplay and growth as a person.
Most
memorable moments include: busing to Thompson for
one of the first AAA basketball championships, chairing
MHSAA Annual General Meetings and my first challenge
of the chair? One of my most favorite experiences
is shaking the hands of athletes competing at provincial
championships.
