The Alexander Josephson Memorial Scholarship

The Alexander Josephson Memorial Scholarship is awarded in honor of Alexander Josephson, a student, and hockey player at St. John’s Ravenscourt School, who tragically passed away in a car accident in 2005. He was a member of the 2003 Provincial Championship Team and selected as a Provincial All-Star.The recipient of this scholarship is a player who demonstrates strong leadership and team play, high scholastic standing, a hard-working attitude, and is proceeding to a post secondary education. A male and female hockey player will each receive a $2,000.00 scholarship.


2010 - 2011

Andrew Miskiewicz of the Stonewall Rams.  He was assistant captain of the team and also part of Stonewall’s Football Team.  In addition he maintains a 96% average and is member of the student leadership team and a peer tutor.  When he is not skating on the ice, he also prepares the ice, by driving the Zamboni at the local arena in Stony Mountain.  He has also mentored many younger officials as a referee.

Amanda Pushka of the Oak Park Raiders Girls Hockey Team.  Amanda helped lead the Raiders to a fourth place finish in overall standings and to the league championship title this season.  She had goals against average of 1.19 during the playoffs.  In addition to hockey, Amanda was also captain of her varsity volleyball team.  Her overall record was 12 wins 3 losses and a tie, and had five shutouts, and also received the outstanding goaltender award at the Husky Classic Tournament.  She also played community hockey with the Assiniboine Park Rangers AA team.


2009 - 2010

The Alexander Josephson Memorial Scholarship Awards -Sara Oswald of Oak Park High School and Jennifer Bell of Sanford Collegiate.

Sara Oswald is a multi sport athlete at Oak Park and is involved with numerous school and community activities.  She maintains a 95% average and was assistant captain and was the sixth leading scorer in the league.  Sara had no penalty minutes, this season, while leading her Raiders team to the League Championship.

Jennifer Bell is captain of the Sanford Sabres team.  She was named to the All Star team for the past two seasons.  She is also very active in school and community activities and is a member of the School’s Athletic Council, and AAA Provincial Volleyball Champions as starting setter.  Jennifer led the Sabres with most points for a defenseman and was fourth in scoring.  She also coaches Volleyball for Middle School students.


2008 - 2009

The female recipient of Alexander Josephson Memorial Scholarship is Kristine Johnson of the Kelvin Clippers Women's Hockey Team.

Kristine, is an overall athlete.  She maintains a 95% academic average and also participated Volleyball, and Track and Field.  Kristine volunteered at Kelvin's annual Christmas Breakfast, is a member of the Grad Committee. As assistant captain, Kristine was supportive of the coaches and was a leader in the dressing room as well as on the ice.

The male recipient of the Alexander Josephson Memorial Scholarship is Quinn Grose of Stonewall Collegiate Rams Hockey Team.

Quinn Grose, is a strong defensive defenseman, as well as a leader and role model on and off the ice. He has an overall academic average of 90.71%.  He is actively involved in programs such as Teen Talk, Circle of Friends, Peer Helper, Peer Tutor, The Champions Program, Remembrance Day Services, Student Leadership Team and countless other programs in the School.  Quinn is not only involved in school activities but is also involved with MS Bike, and Kid's Help Phone, while also refereeing hockey and umpiring baseball.   Quinn is involved in rugby, track and field and baseball through the school. 


2007-2008


Andrew Brigden, captain of the Souris Valley Vipers, led the team in scoring and was in the top ten in the league.  Andrew was selected as an All-Star and MVP at tournaments during the season.  He is Vice President of Student Council, on the Grad fundraising committee and also is co-captain of the rugby and football teams.  Andrew volunteers with the Harvest Food Bank and Coats for Kids, while maintaining a 85% academic Average. If a project in the community is charitable in nature, then Andrew will always be involved.  He displayed a "positive, no quit" attitude and was a leader for a very young team.


Katie MacMillan, Captain of the Kelvin Clippers hockey team, was second in points and scoring on the team, and never missed a game or practice.  She was nominated for top defenseman in Division A, maintained a 84% academic average and also participated in cross country, soccer and handball.  She was a real team leader and mentor for the younger players and played almost 30 minutes per game.  Katie volunteered at Kelvin's annual Christmas Breakfast, is a member of the Grad Committee and volunteered twice a week at the Health Sciences Centre.


2006 - 2007

The female recipient of Alexander Josephson Memorial Scholarship is Melissa Muir from the Oak Park Raiders women’s hockey team.

 

The male recipient of the Alexander Josephson Memorial Scholarship is Brodie Quinton from the St. John’s Ravenscourt Eagles.

2005-2006 recipents are Kimberley Schmeichel of Silver Heights Collegiate and Kyle Boult from St. Paul's High School.
