Jan Salceda of the Sisler Spartans badminton team is this week’s Home Run Sports Urban High School athlete of the week.
This mixed doubles player along with his partner, Patricia Salceda, went undefeated at the MHSAA Provincial Badminton Championships winning the Gold Medal, improving upon their silver medal finish from last year. Coach Jan Watters states, “Jan is a multi sport athlete at Sisler, having played left side on the junior varsity boys volleyball team as well as competing in Badminton, winning the Zone one Championship. He and his partner were undefeated at the MHSAA Provincial Badminton Championships. Jan also participates in Intramurals. Presently, Jan is training at the WWC for the Canada Games tryouts later this summer.”
This grade 10 student has an 83% academic average, while also participating in volleyball.

Madison Hutchinson of the Nellie McClung Stingers fastball team in Manitou, is this week’s Tri-Star Rural High School athlete of the week.
This 5’8” pitcher led the stingers team to a perfect 5-0 record and the championship of the Garden Valley Tournament in Winkler. Madison pitched 4 complete games including the tournament final. She has led the team to a 5-0 zone 6 league record as well, and is batting .370 for the season. Coach Grant Caldwell states, “Madison has had an outstanding year on the field so far. With one of our pitchers out due to injury, Madison has had to carry the load this year. She is skilled, dedicated and very competitive athlete who works hard both in practice and in games.”
This grade 12 student maintains an 86% average, while also participating in track & field.
