Pacesetter (Winnipeg)

Krista Stepa of the Vincent Massey Trojans girls Track and Field team is this week’s Pacesetter Winnipeg High School Athlete of the Week.

Stepa just competed in the McDonald’s High School Track and Field Championships where she won gold medals in the 1500m at 4:57.58, the 3000m at 11:07.33 and the 4 X 400m relay. She also took home a silver in the 800m with a time of 2:21.35. At her zone conference championship, she took gold in all of her events. “Krista absolutely shines academically, athletically, and as a citizen,” states Coach Joanne Goodwin, “she is not afraid of hard work. She shows remarkable dedication and perseverance in her training.”

In her grade 12 year, she maintains a 94% academic average and also competes in cross country running.

Tri-Star (Rural)

Wednesday, June 15

Tara Common of the Rivers Rams girls Track and Field team is this week’s Tri-Star Rural High School Athlete of the week.

At last weekend’s McDonald’s Track and Field Championships, Common took home fourth in the Senior girls long jump with a leap of 5.15m and in the 200m. On June 3 & 4, at the Provincial Rural Track and Field Championships in Selkirk, she took home gold in the senior girls long jump at 5.04m and the 200m at 26.88 seconds. At these same championships, she also captured two silvers in the 100m at 13.03 seconds and the medley relay. “Tara is a humble, natural athlete. She often spends time helping coach the younger track athletes, sharing her wealth of knowledge,” quotes Coach Wendy Radcliffe, “she constantly encourages her teammates to strive for personal excellence.”


This grade 12 student athlete maintains an 89% academic average and competes in Basketball and Soccer. She also coaches elementary track, junior high soccer and basketball, while officiating community soccer.
